XL Catlin’s insurance operations today announced the promotion of Volker Steufer to Underwriting Manager, Marine – Germany. He is based in Cologne and reports to Bert Nelen, Regional Product Leader Marine, EMEA.

“Germany is the third largest export economy in the world, and as such, marine is a key industry for our clients and brokers”, commented Dr. Thomas Götting, Country Manager, Germany. “I am delighted that Volker steps into this new role and takes over the responsibility for our Marine team.”

Bert Nelen added: “Volker has more than 23 years of experience in the marine insurance industry and an excellent reputation for delivering superior services. I am confident that his technical expertise, client focus and proven leadership skills will enable him to successfully drive our strategy and profitably grow our marine portfolio in Germany.”

Volker Steufer started his insurance career with Gothaer Health ÓÈÎïÊÓƵin 1986. He joined the company’s marine department in 1994 and held various marine claims and underwriting positions before joining XL Catlin in 2001.

This announcement follows the appointment of Michael Rattay, Senior Underwriter, Marine for Germany, last month. Mr. Rattay is an expert in international programs for freight forwarders and cargo insurance.

In Germany, XL Catlin has offices in Cologne, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Munich.
